๐This southern recipes collection starts off with a easy and sweet cherry yum-yum dessert recipe that was passed along from my dad to my momma and now to me. My momma loved getting family and friends together by cooking big dinners especially during the holidays but her favorite dishes was always desserts.

Every get together she would have a new dessert for us to try but she always made sure she made a cherry yum-yum and a millionaire pie no matter what. When she passed away, her recipe book was one of the things that I wanted to have so that I could keep her recipes safe.
Even though her handwriting is hard to read, I have managed to pass it along in my family and now it’s time to pass it along to yours.
Cherry Yum-Yum
- 1 – can cherry pie filling (this varies on how much you want to make – I suggest at least 2 cans but I am writing it how she wrote it)
- 2 – cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 – stick of butter
- 1 – 14 oz. size cream cheese
- 1/2 cup – sugar
- 1 – tsp. vanilla
- 1 package – dream whip (you can substitute it with one large tub of Cool Whip)
Melt butter and pour into crumbs. Press 1/2 in dish. Mix dream whip according to directions. In a separate bowl mix cream cheese, sugar and vanilla. Pour into dream whip and blend. Pour 1/2 mixture in dish over crumbs. Add 1/2 cherries. Layer the rest alternating crumbs, mixture and cherries.
Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Over the years we have changed some things to make it a little better (just as you will too) but it’s the love that my momma put into that recipe that made it the best cherry yum-yum ever. I hope you enjoy this dessert as much as we have all these years.
