The Vietnam Experience Exhibit is our first hidden gem. Located at Patriot’s Point, this experience puts you in a realistic setting offering the sights and sounds of the war. As visitors walk through the exhibit, they gain an understanding for what the soldiers faced in the jungles and unforgiving terrain of Vietnam. The Vietnam experience at Patriot’s Point offers a somber yet enlightening tribute to those who served, allowing us to remember and honor their sacrifice. What makes this a hidden gem? Most people visit the USS Yorktown and do not realize that this experience is over by left before you begin walking down to the ship.

Next on the list is an Irish pub. Nestled in the heart of historic Charleston, SC, Tommy Condon’s Irish Pub is a must for any traveler. It’s not just the traditional Irish food and drinks that make this pub so special; the rustic decor, genuine hospitality and friendly service adds to warm atmosphere. There is live Irish music in the evenings that will keep you laughing and singing for hours so it truly is a gem worth visiting.

Our third stop on the list is not really a place but an experience – the only haunted carriage ride down the streets of Charleston is performed by the Old South Carriage Company. As your horse-drawn carriage creaks through dimly lit cobblestone alleys and past centuries-old graveyards, your guide will recount chilling tales of restless spirits, tragic love stories, and eerie legends that have haunted Charleston for generations.

The H.L. Hunley Submarine is the world’s first successful combat submarine that vanished after sinking the USS Housatonic during the Civil War—only to be rediscovered over a century later. Today, the Hunley rests in a state-of-the-art preservation tank at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center. With hands-on displays, artifact discoveries, and expert-led tours, the Hunley experience offers an unforgettable journey into the past that will leave you marveling at this groundbreaking yet haunting piece of naval history.

Last stop on the list is the little-known gem called the Charleston Tea Garden. About a 30-minute drive from downtown Charleston, it’s located on Wadmalaw Island. Established in 1960’s, it is the only tea garden in North America. Whether you’re sipping a freshly brewed sample on the porch or learning the secrets behind a perfect cup, a visit to the Charleston Tea Garden is a truly refreshing experience that blends history, nature, and Southern charm.
