👑While South Carolina may not be a huge state, it does has a lot of history and places to visit within it’s state lines. If you look at a map of South Carolina, you will find there are towns all over the state with weird names but some of these aren’t listed on a map because they are unincorporated communities.

Being native, I refer to them as towns or areas but they are actually unincorporated communities.
By definition, an unincorporated community is “a settlement that is not governed by its own local municipal corporation”. ~ Wikipedia In other words, these type of communities fall within the governing region of another town, the local county or state regulations.
1) This community is not where the “Little Mermaid” lives but Ariel Crossroad does have her name in the title and it is located in Marion County.
2) A clean town is hard to come by but you can come wash up in Bath, SC which is located in Aiken County.
3) Looking for a historical battlefield? Then Bloody Point in Beaufort County has plenty to offer, hence the name.
4) Is everything brown in Brownsville or is it home to the Browns? Neither but it is located in Marlboro County.
5) Money don’t grow on trees but if it did you could find it in Cash, which is located in Chesterfield County.
6) Coosawhatchie? It might be hard to pronounce but it was named years ago by the Native American Coosaw tribe in Jasper County.
7) Real friends are hard to come by but maybe you can find one that lives in the Friendship community located in Marion County.
8) Switch the words and Frogmore becomes more frogs which is located on an island in Beaufort County. I wonder if they really do have more frogs.
9) You might get spooked if you visit Goretown during Halloween and it’s located in Horry County.
10) Willy Wonka would be proud to live in the community of Gumville except for the fact it’s near Hell Hole Swamp in Berkeley County.
South Carolina has give or take around 236 unincorporated communities statewide.
11) Need a hand? Well South Carolina has a Hand community that might be willing to help you out in Horry County.
12) Hickory trees and a tavern is all it took for this community to earn the name Hickory Tavern. It can be found in Laurens County.
13) Wasn’t it all called Indian Land before the first settlers? Well South Carolina’s is located in Lancaster County.
14) Even though Ketchuptown isn’t where ketchup was created, you can still “catch up” on the news in Horry County.
15) If aliens can’t be found on Mars, then maybe they can be found in Mars Bluff in Florence County. Just bluffin’…..pun intended.
16) Starting as an independent African American community, Little Africa is located in Spartanburg County.
17) If it’s not a new house, it’s got to be an Old House and this one can be found in Jasper County.
18) If you need directions in South Carolina, all you have to do is Point South and you will find yourself in Jasper County.
19) Many Southerners call skunks polecats so is Polecat Landing, in Horry County. Is this where all the new skunks in town gather?
20) Where do you go to get a pumpkin in South Carolina? Well Pumpkintown of course, which is located in Pickens County.
There only 4 letters in the alphabet not used to name a community: Q, X, Y and Z.
21) Yes the letter O is round and if you need clarification on it, visit Round O located in Colleton County.
22) Don’t get caught up in a Spiderweb, in Aiken County, because you might just have to stick around.
23) Did you know that a baby’s pacifier used to be called a Sugar Tit? Well this isn’t a pacifier but it is a community located in Spartanburg County.
24) Make sure you have had plenty of rest when you visit the Wide Awake community in Berkeley County.
25) On your trip back home remember to stop and watch the sun set in Sunset, SC which is located in Pickens County. By the way, it is a really nice place to watch the sunset, just sayin’.
